Not so much news about Cyprus this morning but a world feel good story. The amazing headlines that have emerged from New York about a pilot landing his Air Bus A320 plane in the River Hudson saving the lives of all 155 passengers and crew on board is simply breathe taking. This mans actions are the exact meaning of heroism. I know pilot friends of mine will argue that he was “just doing his job” but as far as I can ascertain this is the first passenger airliner that has been brought down in such adverse circumstances where the plane stayed in one piece and there was no loss of life. It has also been reported that the pilot was the last to leave the plane having combed up and down the aisles to make absolutely sure that nobody had been left behind. Just doing his job? Mmmm – I don’t know so much. All I do know is had I been a passenger on the said plane there are two things that are certain: One, I would never fly again as I am already a fear of flying neurotic and this would have seriously tipped the balance and two, I would make it my mission to do whatever I could to make sure this pilot knew that everyday of my life from this day on was down to him and him alone. Oh and not forgetting the other hero’s on the water taxis who retrieved passengers from the wings of the plane and from the water. And I am sure there will be other stories emerging of people helping others in the face of adversity. Today is a day where we should celebrate that human nature is for the most part something we should be proud of.  Well done to all of you Especially Captain Chesley Sullenberger xxx
